Mark Blackwood, local liason for Homeland Security, asked the Maury Amateur Radio Club
to be part of  Homeland Security program in the communications area.
The MARC is already affiliated with the local emergency planning committee,
(LEPC) and the COUNTY HAZMAT TEAM.
Mark wanted to know if we would be interested in taking the courses to certify us in the CERT program.
The initial classes were held on June 14, 2004 at the EMS building in Columbia.

Below are pictures from the first meeting, other meetings, and class members.

CERT Class Goes Through Fire Fighting Training on June 28, 2004

During the months of June and July, we were invited to attend the first CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training class conducted by the Office of Emergency Management. We were asked by Mark Blackwood, director, to be the first class due to our knowledge from emergency protocols and procedures that we had obtained from our amateur radio experiences. This class was very informative and was yet another way for us to provide assistance and help during various emergencies. We were instructed in the basics of first aid, CPR, emergency evacuation, fire suppression, and building search and rescue. Plus, we each received an official CERT “Go Bag” which contains personal protective gear and equipment. If you did not attend the first class, there will be ample opportunities to participate in future classes. Please contact me for more information and I will forward this along to Mark. Thanks to all who participated ! Greg KF4ZKV.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MAURY COUNTY'S FIRST CERT CLASS !
